But if if were up to me, there would be additional requirements.

At least a high school education.

No criminal record.

Held a job for at least 10 years.

Paid your taxes.

Be at least 30 years of age (for House), 35 (for Senate) and 45 (for President and VP).

Speak another language in addition to English. (Think of the bridges of communication that would build.)

Own a pet (I don't trust people who have never owned a pet - unless there was a good reason, like allergies).

Be in good physical condition, with a doctor's evaluation of your physical and MENTAL health and cognition.

Never lie, cheat, steal, or be physically- or mentally- or emotionally-abusive.
