By the way Joe, I know you harvest a lot of oil lobby dollars so you may just be sprouting this nonsense on behalf of your industry pals, but just in case you actually are ignorant on the reason for glass structures allow me to water your budding knowledge on the topic:
The glass in greenhouses traps the suns shortwave radiation after they pass thru and become long wave radiation... that don't easily pass back thru the glass,- they are trapped- and warm the soil and masonry in the structure to keep the plants warmer in colder climates. They also can help keep moisture trapped inside raising the humidity that many plants prefer.
The Earth's atmosphere works somewhat the same way. That is one of the reasons we have life on this planet. It does NOT explain where there is so much stupid here though.
Oh, and one last thing Joe, these greenhouses are not actually green: usually they are white with clear bits in between. Just FYI.
