Because they were bound by some mixture of money, loyalty, kompromat, and/or fear. They are a disciplined party. They don't think outside the box because there is no outside the box.

They're devastated without Trump, and I would argue they're devastated with him. He's got his fingerprints all over fascism and devastation of the American way of life. All he's got is projection and control of 30% of America's minds.
