People on the right still see it as the last great moment of national unity, and look back nostalgically at it. But "watch what you say and watch what you do" was the real message.

Neocons running rampant, claiming to rule over an "anti-terror" regime for "about 30 years", it was a time of fear and retribution, of torture and coverup, of profits and power, all with conveniently-timed use of rainbow-colored alerts.

It broke the brains of many people and their ability, if they ever had it, to think before acting or to determine truth before believing lies.

If one were to speak up for a more thoughtful reaction, they would be shouted down roundly.
Unity. Right.
I remember.
