In reply to the discussion: President Obama Speaks at Newtown Vigil - 'We Can't Tolerate This Anymore' [View all]humbled_opinion
(4,423 posts)Obviously I get it now that he shouldn't be specific at a memorial service, my mind was clouded initially due to all the forum talk about specifics on how to stop this violence..... but in the end, it is he who will have to initiate and lead this change, when I see people on this forum that support gun rights some as strongly as if they were part of the NRA it dims my hope that anything will be done, but if nothing gets done now than I think I can safely say nothing will ever get done and I will consider it a direct failure of President Obama to lead on the issue. If we fail from the same old talking points like "guns don't kill people", "Guns are not easy to access", and of course the loathesome "If only more people had guns, they could shoot back" crap that the rightwing and NRA lobbyists are going to throw at us than I say it is dis-service to those that gave their lives to teach us these lessons.... How many more must die?
