(3,992 posts)That's the issue I'm seeing with the conspiracy scene right now, its the false idea of the unified "they".
We ARE in trouble from various fronts. There's all kinds of bad things happening, all kinds of conspiracies go down every day. But the conspiracy culture demands this one unified "them" to be responsible for it. If you have power, and you aren't with the CT guys, you must be one of "them". Its gone to the point where people are accusing the grieving CT shooting families of complicity in conspiracy, because the conspiracy is seen to benefit "them". Also, threats from things like climate change can't be discussed in that scene, because its much harder to pin on "them", most analysis reveals the culprits are "us" and that thinking is too uncomfortable for that scene.
Obama and Biden wouldn't make a "them" point, because they work in terms of "we" and "us", that virtue brings them a lot power. Check out this video, most powerful point at about 12:00 in. Listen to how often the word "we" is used. The key moment is where he says "we need to change"
People aren't upset with Jones for questioning everything, we all should be doing that more often IMHO. They are upset at a person who has given up questioning, because the answer to every question has become "them", and pointing a finger of blame, often at innocent people who, when upon closer examination turn out to be very much like, and connected with us.
