I'm sorry that you have to deal with that. It's not fair, and it's not right that people stand by and let it happen either. Not to say it doesn't happen at all here in the PacNW, it does. But I think what's left of it here is a lot less vicious. More daylight you shine at it, it just goes away. The worst of what is left, happens underground/behind closed doors here. Some dude spouts some vile sexist bullshit, and people will openly call him on it.

An example, I sew. I have a sewing machine. My wife doesn't even know how to turn the machine on. I am completely open about this and at first, my male friends were like 'whut?'. They didn't understand. Then it became ribbing. Then one of them ripped an expensive maxpedition backpack. I fixed it. Mockery no more. Now I'm teaching them how to braid paracord, and make simple repairs. I can wax philosophical about how I might craft a dress that I think would look amazing on my wife, and I get nodding and 'yeah, that makes sense'. Proper application of a simple skill, and I can dispel a 'women's work' myth, just like that.

50 years ago, I think that sort of thing comes with a lifelong negative 'somthin' wrong with that boy' reputation.

Now, what happens behind closed doors.. that's probably another story. But the more conversations we can have in the open, the more we can break down these artificial gender barriers, and outgrow.
