(663 posts)As you can guess, I have 3 kids. Two boys ages 9 and 5, and my daughter who is 12. I have been married for 16 years. I have been a member since 2006, but only an occasional poster. I do check in every day.
I was born in Cincinnati, lived briefly in Cleveland, then Nashville and now reside in High Point, NC.
I have a bachelors degree in music performance (flute) and was accepted for graduate school at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in music theory and composition, but was unable to afford the tuition. This turned out to be fortuitous, since after a couple of years teaching music, I decided to return to school and found my real passion. I went returned to college to receive a degree in biology originally with the thought of becoming a vet. I then decided I wanted to attend med school, but quickly changed my mind after taking the MCAT. The stress of that examine was more than I wanted. So I pursued a career in research. Little did I realize at the time that in many ways graduate school and research science is more stressful than medicine! So I now have a PhD in cell biology.
I received my music degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati and my biology degree from the University of Cincinnati. My PhD was earned at Case Western Reserve University. I spent 5 years at Vanderbilt University investigating the mechanisms of breast cancer metastases. I am now at Wake Forest University in the field of regenerative medicine and am in the process of looking for another position.
My interests are listening to music, playing with our dogs, gardening, motorcycle riding and martial arts. We currently have 2 dogs and 1 cat. I ride a BMW x-country motorcycle and have a senior red belt in Kenpo karate. I am currently studying Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido.
I love DU and really like the look of DU3.
It's nice to meet everyone!
