The album, as well as Lennon during his "lost weekend" phase in L.A. and Nilsson himself, stands as a cautionary tale against excess in all forms. This wasn't a career peak for either of the musicians. But at the time, it stood as one of the more amusing moments from the album.
Some Bob songs probably came off better in the hands of others. This one, I think, is better left with Bob. R.E.M. and Billy Joel both took a shot at "laundry list" songs, this one still reigns supreme.
