19. Trust your instincts....

One company contacted me about a position. Wasn't really into it since it would be a lateral move, when I may very well be moving up where I'm currently at. Will only consider a lateral move if its a complete different industry and in a location "I could have some fun in". But, granted this wasn't a different industry, the thought of visiting Disney World, etc. quick access to the Caribbean, etc. intrigued me. So I looked up the employee reviews.

Now you usually get a good sized mix of "Great" to "Awful"....but plenty in the middle to get a good gauge to see which side of the curve it leans. This company was odd, the vast majority were either "Great" or "Awful", very little in the middle. That threw up a red flag, so if I go for it, I could love it or hate it....not much in between. But the company website sealed the deal for me, a young company founded in the 90's and one of the largest home insurers in Florida. In other words, one good hurricane away from insolvency.

Replied I wasn't interested.
