Sure you've probably tried this but when my ac wasn't working one year I had to call in a repair guy. The plug wasn't set completely, all he had to do was push the plug in tighter and it worked! Cost me $180, a lot of money for someone to plug in your ac but the first of August in Iowa in a trailer it was worth it. The repairman felt really bad but of course had to charge for the service call since he worked for some big company in town.

I tell you this because that is exactly what my ac was doing. This may not be the answer for you but thought it might be worth a try! I've been in your position before and it is really hard. Thinking that other people have it worse doesn't help you. You can have empathy for them but you are still in a bad spot right now so you are as bad off as any.
