If you live in a cold climate like I do (Minnesota) you have to dig them up in the fall, but all you have to do is store them in a cool place like an unfinisheds basement until spring. You don't even have to keep them moist; just put the bulbs in a basket or onion bag and leave them alone until replanting in the spring.
