Been through that with my families first dog.
Had no other dog until I was married and she died in our bed.
Now I've spent 8 years dreading the future as we've watched our baby get older. We don't know how well manage this time.
Don't carry that burden, he wouldn't want it. He was there for you as much as you were for him.

We had to put down Shadow, 17 years old, our last rescue dog, down two months ago.
