3. I moved into an apartment after separating from my ex

and for a move in gift my friend gave me a coffee maker. This particular coffee maker did not do auto shut off and both having a bad memory and never having a coffee maker that did not have an auto off I forgot to turn it off. I was out of town and half of the day later I realized I had left it on. I ended up calling my manager and she was not in the office so I had to call fellow tenants who went to the managers apartment and talked to her husband who was able to call her and get permission to enter my apartment to turn the coffee maker off. When I got home the next day the carafe was burnt beyond cleaning and repair and the bottom had started to melt. I had fire alarms that worked but it is still scary to think that a small thing like that can be so dangerous.
