(4,056 posts)33. The "protagonists" from two Poe stories:
The Telltale Heart and especially The Black Cat. The latter being the scariest thing I'd ever read at aged 11. And the fact that the nameless sociopath was narrating the story, acting like the victim was even creepier. I slept under the bed for weeks!
Horror films, later books--yeah, they can be scary, but NOTHING beats an opium-crazed Victorian writer who'd never seen images on a screen for evoking pure fear!
