(249,142 posts)My Dad knew everybody, so he was often able to "borrow" the mayor's box at Saratoga Race Track, my hometown, and we loved seeing the horses, visited there with him since we were kids. The boxes are the best seats in the house, can't be bought, people usually have to inherit them, so we occasionally saw the rich and famous. The women with the big fancy hats sit in the boxes, LOL.
Tom Brokaw and his wife were seated in a box the next row, back and to the left, so I had to pass right by them anytime I got up to go anywhere. I didn't bother him, just smiled and nodded and kept going, but he gave me a real glare, anyway.
The thing I remember was what they were eating. He had a fruit and cheese plate and she had a hamburger. He was pounding on the bottom of a ketchup bottle trying to get some out for her, LOL.
Later, I complained to my friend about Tom Brokaw's unfriendliness and she defended him, saying that he was probably losing and was apparently on a diet, too.
