10. When I was a kid in CT--this was the 60s--supposedly...

...an old house foundation in the woods north of town was haunted by the ghost of a woman who lived there when the house was still standing. The lady in question was the sister of my great-great grandmother, so we had kind of a family interest in the place, you might say. And again, supposedly, on clear, windy fall nights you could hear the poor lady weeping for a lover who never returned to her. (I seem to recall that he was a Civil War soldier who died...) I went there on fall nights once or twice, but never heard any weeping, alas. In the event, the whole area was bulldozed in the 80s to make a housing development, so it's someone else's problem now...
