Seriously. The first thing I thought of was a scene later in "Contact" when she is walking across the bridge to get into the machine and pauses to look down into the churning ocean waters below. That shot literally made me say, "Holy Shit!" But I also thought a little more about the film and remembered the sabotage of the first machine, and that was an even bigger "Holy Shit!" scene. But you got to it first...
