I too was a kid in the 60s, and The Avengers came to the USA on the wave of Brit invasion bands, Carnaby St chic and a whole ton of major Anglophilia. I thought all Englishmen were like Steed. Hah! When I moved to London in 74 I was in for a rude awakening. I didn't understand the class system, but found out that working people were totally crude and hilarious, and hella more fun that trussed-up Bank nerds.
