I mean you can throw a pretty decent shindig for $10k if you cut some corners here and there.
After the first month of just paper planning (not spending anything, just figuring out costs), she realized the money would just be wasted. The next month they went to the JoP and got married there and used the $10k for a house downpayment (this was back in the late 80s).
From what I've heard they are still married today.
I had 2 friends that each spent between $25-50k on their wedding (again late 80s), neither of them lasted more than 18 months.
