(14,891 posts)I love living in the greening up, and green months here. So rich!
I also saw photos of The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, and a whole photo book by Elliot Porter of ?____ Canyon before buried under the waters of what would be Lake Powell all by the time I was a mid teen back in the late '60s.
I fell in love with the colors, and sculpturalness of it!
In '79 I went across the whole USA by bus Southwest route. Met a friend heading back eastward in Flagstaff. We rented a car and visited Monument Valley - slept under the stars, and we parted ways on returning to Flagstaff, he east, me west.
I came back to Flagstaff and took a day tour to the GC, and a day tour back again through the Hopi Nation.
I often felt like I was living in a waking dream, a dream come true once I went from green, but getting flatter, and flatter Southern Missouri near sunset, and hen through Oklahoma, Texas panhandle at night and waking up in the scrubby brush and wind, and occasional rain sculptured rocks of New Mexico.
I still have the Journal I kept - writing and sketches I made.
I went back to it next Summer before heading northward.
Some or the most glowing memories in my life! 💖
Your visit to Olympus Washington - amazing temperate "rain forests". Too much gray for me, but seeing some of those fog, and mist faded trees must have been amazing, too.
[Oh, and next year I also got to visit The 💖 Rockies in Colorado]
