at his museum in Van Meter his Iowa home town. Rapid Robert had two moods: avuncular grandpa and axe murderer. I caught him in the second, he charged me, signed, and was rude about it. In that order.
To be fair, most of my contact with him was on a day when hed torn the guts out of his Jag by running over something on I80 at 70 mph. He was pissed about that, and worried about how he was going to pick up Ted Williams who was resting at a Des Moines hotel. At another time, he signed his book for my daughter, and couldnt have been nicer.
