explain that I was thinking of Southern rock thanks to an unexpected detour made by a Dutch band, especially in an outro during a live performance in 2007 of a song they'd recorded in 1971 but never released as a single (and should have, especially with that outro, which they might have been using for all live performances, but I'm not sure since I haven't been able to find any earlier live performances on YouTube.of this song).
I'm going to post both the live performance and the studio version below, since I want people to hear that outro first, but I also want to link to the Music Appreciation thread posted a couple of days ago: https://democraticunderground.com/103481003 .
The sound quality on this video from a fan isn't good, but the outro is clearer, so start listening about 2:40 here (sorry I can't link directly to that time in the video, but DU's software doesn't allow it, breaks the URL):
The guitarist there, George Kooymans, who founded the band and wrote this song and many others, has won some European best-guitarist polls and awards. He has ALS now, and you might have seen the thread I posted asking for prayers/vibes for him.
Ths video below is the studio version, and.though there's a bit of southern rock influence to be heard, especially after about 3 minutes in, it isn't as noticeable as in that live outro.
Golden Earring had already done some touring in the US by 1971, and their music had all kinds of influences, so I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising that it included some southern rock.
