I was never actually frightened by traditional horror stories, with monsters and supernatural entities, as a kid. The most scary movies for me were based on REAL human behavior -- e.g., Helter Skelter, Guyana Tragedy, etc.
Even Spielberg's "Duel" was more frightening to me as a little kid (in the early 70's) than most so-called horror films.
My older brothers were amazed that I was always skeptical and relaxed whenever they tried to scare me with nonsense about monsters being under my bed. I was later told that an older sister was much more gullible in that regard, and she just happens to be the gung-ho evangelical Christian in our family today. So she's still gullible.
Our normally mild-mannered father was terrifying enough for me, whenever he'd lose his temper to the extreme -- such as when he closely pursued a group of motorcyclists in his large V8 luxury car after one of them had kicked it outside of a restaurant. We all believed he was going to run them over, after coming within inches of one of them, but he indeed slowed down to let them escape.
