13. I went to her the first time because she was a friendly acquaintance.

Marilyn is the SIL of one of my best gal pals. THEY were/are pals--in addition to being family members--and it just kinda fell into place that when my previous hairdresser moved away with her husband I went to Marilyn because she was somebody I knew and liked. Marilyn already knew me, and had seen my hair in various states so I figured I'd give her a try. I am NOT a hair or makeup kinda person. I know I drive stylists nuts because my attitude is cut my hair however you think it will look ok without using a bunch of products or any kind of curlers/blow dryers. I figured she already knew that about me--and had been there for the failures and successes of others--so it was worth a shot.

Marilyn does good hair and doesn't charge as much as some of the trendy salons in the area. She's cool with my lack of hair interest and is perfectly willing to work within the confines of "no products no hardware" with good results. I broke down and left her use a permanent color a couple of years ago, and even my restriction that the color be something maybe found in nature has worked out ok as well. She must be ok at what she does--I have had compliments on my hair, AND my usually picky 15 year old actually goes to her as well...

Anywho, we are pals outside the shop and go "junk shopping" together sometimes, plus we take the occasional weekend jaunt to meet up with my pal/her SIL in another state. Works out fine and I enjoy my trips in to see her.
