If your car runs out of gas, can you just pour gas back in the tank? [View all]

Reason I ask, Last night I was leaving a meeting and a young woman had run out of gas. Another man and woman
were helping her, so I didn't stop. They asked me did I know how to add gas. I don't, but I always figured you just poured it in.

Am I right?
