61. Camp fire baked potatoes

As kids, our Saturday mornings were
spent in the woods. We would pack
some food for lunch, sandwiches, Slim
Jim's or jerky a couple of canteens of
water. We also would bring several
foil wrapped potatoes, salt and pepper
shakers and butter. We built a small
camp fire, using dried leaves and twigs
and matches we snuck out the house,
then started laying on larger branches
until we could see the red embers.
We would put the potatoes into the
base of the fire then would goof around for
a while swinging on vines or sending
someone on a snipe hunt. After about
twenty or so minutes we would retrieve
our freshly roasted potatoes and play
hot potato until we could unwrap the charred foil from the spuds. The smell of the potatoes and the fire really added to our enjoyment of the meal we created by
ourselves. Magical days and memories!
