A hamfisted attempt at a poem...in despair and dark, words can soothe or harm and I need help to see faintest lights. [View all]
Oh humanity! Why do you weep?
Woe to you, liberty. How can you sleep?
Oh America!
Your path hidden from sight, lost to chaos and to ruin.
250 gone so soon?
How much beauty and life have we cast aside?
in service of false gods of attention or craven lords of capital?
How much love and peace have we allowed to be stolen?
without a murmur of protest or public notice?
How much hate and evil have we watched?
silently sorrowful and tearful, but unmoved to act?
How much of our very soul has been cast down and sacrificed?
upon the altar of greed?
for a congregation of thieves?
What was is past,
what follows now is cast.
There was a light in the dark,
made hidden as if put out,
But not all is stark,
or remains forever rout.
Forget not
those dreams of the past,
Rise once more!
Re-engage at last.
Ring it out and join the host...
Sing it proud from coast to coast.
Clutch the truth and damn the lie,
for great ideas never die!
