I am female, British as my name suggests, and have been on DU since 2004. I have a very international collection of friends and relatives; including an American set, mainly living in and around Boston, so I've heard a lot about what an awful governor Mitt Romney was. I have a lot of contacts in Canada too, and indeed have dual citizenship from infancy, though I only go there occasionally.

Though I would always have been on the left, my political views were most strongly forged in the Thatcher era, when I saw what the Right did to many of the best things in my country. I've voted Labour, LibDem and Green in my time; been disappointed when the people for whom I voted didn't get in, and often even more disappointed when they did. My favourite politicians in this country were before my time: Clem Attlee and Nye Bevan.
