32. Canasta, hearts, euchre, poker, cribbage

Oct 2012

I've played each somewhat fanaticly at one period or another. I played canasta virtually every evening with my future in-laws while dating their daughter for about 4 years--I became very good. Much later, on a very tight magazine staff I was on, we played hearts every day during lunch for an hour--that lasted 6 years. When my brother married a woman from Toronto, we were up there for a week and I was introduced to euchre as if it were a religion and became hooked--sadly, there aren't many euchre players in Oregon and I couldn't indulge much when I got home. Until my Dad died 15 years ago, we played tons of cribbage--he taught me in high school and we played regularly for the next 25 years.

I play poker in a group that has been playing regularly for more than 25 years. We once all worked together--the company no longer exists, but the poker group and the remnants of the softball team soldier on! I also played lots of online poker (both "free" and real money games) until the state of Oregon caused the reputable poker sites to refuse membership to Oregon residents (years before the US justice department shut down all online gambling sites).

Obviously, I'm a bit of a card junkie.
