(30,262 posts)I'm 44 years old, widowed, and a Democratic precinct chair. For those of you who live in states without precinct chairs, we are the front line shock troops of the Democratic Party in that we organize our communities, knock on doors, and arrange meetings with our candidates. I have also served as an election judge and a member of the statewide Resolutions Committee for the Texas Democratic Party in 2010.
I was born in Garland, Texas, and have been a lifelong Texan.
I have been married to fellow DUer ginbarn (aka ChickMagic) from April 1, 2000 until May 12, 2010, when she passed away in her sleep from heart failure. I still miss Ginny every single day, but overall it's getting easier to deal with. Here's a picture of her with the late Molly Ivins in 2005:

I currently have one cat, Banjo, who was rescued off the street in December 2008 before a nasty cold snap hit. She's about 10 years old and as plucky as her namesake. Ginny always wanted a pet named Banjo after seeing the "Sea Monkey" episode of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, so Banjo it was.
One of my current pasttimes is visiting Texas ghost towns. You can read about some of my exploits and see the pictures at http://texasghosttowns.blogspot.com if you so wish.
My taste in music is fairly eclectic, ranging from John Zorn to Johnny Cash, Lustmord to Laibach, Bartok to Baboon. Once in a while, I produce a mix that you can hear on Mixcloud by clicking http://www.mixcloud.com/derby378/.
I am a card-carrying skeptic who has studied exorcism, faith healing, and alternative medicine. One of the items on my bucket list is to publish a comprehensive history of homeopathy in the United States. I also have a nice little collection of antique patent medicine bottles.
I am sometimes quirky and unpredictable (ADHD will do that) and a little shy in person. I would love to find another woman to share my life with, but I should probably get my ducks in a row first - you have to relearn so many things when you become single again.
I have been a member of DU since 2002 (thanks to Ginny) and am here for the long haul.
