32. My Bernese Mountain dog fell into . . .

The Doggie Doolie, a pet septic container/system to dispose of dog poops.

It was Halloween (how appropriate) and she was so over-the-top excited when the kids came to the door, I was afraid she might knock one of the little ones down. So . . . I put her out.back in our fenced yard. Once the trick-or-treaters were done, I called for her. She came racing in looking like a dripping fudge popsicle, flew by me, raced up the stairs smearing the white wallpaper on the way, and then took a flying leap onto our bed, dressed, of course, with a white bedspread.

How she fell into the Doggie Doolie or got out? I have no idea.

This is one of those experiences that are funny in retrospect.

In the moment? Not so funny.

And the smell? Enough to bring grown men to their knees.

Quite a night. The story is usually recalled with: Remember when Breena dressed as a fudge popsicle for Halloween?

Dogs and kids. They never fail to surprise.
