(and I do too) I should probably tell you that they are less related to nuts like almonds, walnuts, and the other mixed nuts than they are to poison ivy. Yes, they are in the poison ivy family. But don't panic. The rash-inducing oil never gets inside their shells (which is why you never see them sold in the shell, as you may do with other "tree nuts."
People who are allergic to tree nuts can often tolerate cashews and pistachios.
Peanuts are not related to any of them. Peanuts are a bean, like lentils, kidney beans, navy beans, et cetera. People can be allergic to peanuts (as I am) and still tolerate all the tree nuts and cashews and pistachios. (If you are allergic to peanuts and crave peanut butter, the closest substitute is sunflower butter.)
