I replaced the original battery when it started showing symptoms of decay. As a result, the reader is no longer "waterproof". A small price to pay for many years of additional life.

You can adjust the backlight from glaring to a mellow amber. It has a ton of fonts available to use. If the fonts onboard don't meet your needs you can side load one that does. The fonts are adjustable from minuscule to gigantic. In addition the font's weight is adjustable.
