I remember coming home from working the night shift and noticing my cat's face seemed very swollen and he felt super warm - yet he was purring up a storm. I took him to an emergency vet, turned out he had some kind of serious infection, an abscess had to be drained. I was surprised about the purring but the vet told me cats do that sometimes if they are stressed or in pain.
