In the cases of Styx and Journey, each band had points where they had two lead singers. I don't give a rats ass that people deem them "corporate rock" or think their lyrics are cheezeball. The voice is an instrument and singing is a craft. The fact that people don't appreciate the notes that a singer hits in the same way that they appreciate a great guitar solo. Try going to a karaoke bar and singing a Steve Perry song in the right octave. Most likely (unless you're a really gifted singer) it will sound a lot like a mediocre guitarist picking up an axe and trying to play like Eddie Van Halen.
