I'm about to start my first post-PhD gig. It's going to be great, but it's also only a five month contract, with no chance of extension - it's also in Switzerland, which is going to be interesting, but isn't easy.

I came back to the US this summer with a PhD. I moved in with my brother who got me a job working at a shop attached to a bar. When that ended at the end of summer, I got a job at a warehouse. That is in contrast to how I was living with my parents and working at a video store after I finished my master's degree.

The thing is, I only got these degrees because it was something I wanted to do. I didn't expect to get jobs from them, but at the same time, I thought they'd give me a better chance of getting jobs in my field that I did want, but that doesn't seem to really be the case.
