I quit for two years before only to go back to 2 packs a day after thinking I could just smoke on Saturday nights. I also quit for 7 months on a different occasion only to go back to it. I'm 40 now, and unlike the other times I quit, I can tell now that I've done permanent damage to my lungs. I think I'll be okay, but if I were to keep at it for another ten years, maybe not. I know a guy who is 52 and has emphysema.
