I don't know why, but the sentence "the earth exploded and everybody died" just came into my head. So I went with it. I wrote:

The Earth exploded and everybody died. The chunks of Earth scattered through the solar system. One hit Mars, and it exploded. One of Mars’s chunks hit Jupiter, and it exploded. And so it went on until every planet in the solar system had exploded. Since Pluto is no longer a planet, it’s intact.
