streaming is what a SmartTV is for. It connects to the home network (either by wifi or an ethernet cable) and streams from your Netflix or Hulu (or other things) account.

I could also stream netflix through my PS3 or my Xbox but it is much easier from the TV.

He could be using the Netflix mail-order disc service but then he wouldn't even need a smartTV. Just a hi-def tv and a good Blu-Ray player.

although it's been a while since I've been shopping - you may not even be able to get a hi-def TV that isn't smart lol.
