98. Merle's death run made a huge difference

Between that and the ones Michonne took out earlier (and those who died on the assault to recover Glen/Maggie and then Daryl). He kept losing more combat experienced troops than the group. The group traded the absolutely worthless Axel with the very resourceful sniper in the tower on the first assault.

On the other hand is it realistic to think he can wipe over two to three squads of National Guardsman with that core and not be able to deal with Rick's group? That part is still far fetched.

It did not seem you had as many people when the Gov mowed them down than entered the prison, but I don't remember seeing very many shot by the group with the ambush. What happened to the rest?

I was kind of hoping that they would lock the prison behind the assault force and send waves of walkers in with noisemakers. They possibly could shot the locks, but it would take time.
