(46,179 posts)I haven't worn earrings in more than a decade, and didn't wear them much the decade before that. I lost interest. I like the earrings themselves, but unless they are tiny little studs, they make my ears sore, get tangled in my hair, and get in the way. So I don't wear them.
Both of my grown sons have pierced ears. The oldest got his ears pierced on a weekend visit to his dad in 8th grade. His dad dropped him off at school on Monday morning...where I worked. His classmates made a big deal of tipping me off when they passed by, so I held out my hand, he dropped the rings into them, and I told him to ask for them back when he was 18. He forgot. He did, though, pierce an eyebrow and his tongue in his early 20s. I never reacted; partly not to give him the satisfaction, and partly because he was old enough to do his own stupid stuff. He gave them up after a couple of years; still occasionally wears an earring or two, though.
My younger? I don't remember. It was after he moved out. He didn't pierce any of his face, so I didn't really notice.
