5. One of my cats understands doorknobs.

He just lacks thumbs to hang on to them and turn them. For a long time he tried to get into the bathroom (to comply with the Cat Rule that no human may occupy a bathroom unless accompanied by at least one cat) by sticking his paw under the door and pulling, while howling mournfully. But recently I noticed that while I was occupying a bathroom (without a cat), the doorknob would rattle - he was working on opening the door by turning the knob. I don't know how he figured that out, unless it was by watching me.
