He's 11, and it's aimed more towards 11 year olds, 14 and it's aimed for 14 year olds. 17 and it's aimed for 17 year olds.
She finished and published the books every few years, so the generation that started reading it, also grew up with Harry more or less.

I was in my late 20s before I saw Star Wars. I too have never seen Harry Potter, or read it.
