One had struvite crystals, which were treated with medication and subcutaneous fluids very inexpensively. Afterward I did feed him special food and he never had the problem again.

Another one had stones in his bladder, and required surgery. When they did the ultrasound and bloodwork, they also discovered his liver was failing due to a congenital structural problem. He had surgery to repair his liver and bladder (which was also structurally deformed), and remove the stones, was in the hospital almost 2 weeks, and it cost almost $7000. He was very young and the prognosis for recovery was good so I went ahead with the treatment even though it was a lot of money. It has been over a year since then, and he has never been healthier or happier.

The treatment depends on what caused the problem - I would follow the advice of your vet and definitely keep an eye on his litterbox so if it happens again you can get him treated right away.

I am glad you caught it in time - my understanding is that cats can die pretty quickly if a urinary blockage isn't treated quickly. I feel very fortunate that I noticed my guys were having trouble soon enough to get help from the vets.

Your little Thor is really adorable.
