Perhaps the best way to describe Picard's ability to deal with "God-like" status is the episode, "Who Watches the Watchers", where the prime directive is violated with the race who is being "watched".

I think Picard says something like, "my people, too, once lived in caves.." It's a perfect philosophy of what the entire human experience should be taught, based on the evolution I have wished would exist.... and still do.
