(60,158 posts)It's by an aging, but still popular punk band called the Toten Hosen. Literally, it means "dead trousers," but it's a slang expression meaning "nuthin' goin' on." It mentions their home town of Düsseldorf in the verse that starts out with 8 left:
Acht kleine Jägermeister fuhren gerne schnell
Sieben fuhren nach Düsseldrf und einer fuhr nach Köln
Eight little Jägermeister liked to drive fast
Seven drove to Düsseldorf and one "drove (see the video)" to Cologne
Düsseldorf and Köln are only about 25 to 30 miles apart and have a friendly/not so friendly rivalry that goes back a loooong way.
It's kind of gory (animated--fear not), and shows a dark humor, but still very funny if you can understand German.
"Jägermeister" means "master of the hunt," and is a smelly potent herbal liquor that has a very distinctive broad-antlered stag as it's trademark logo. The video makes fun of that, and starts out with "ten little Jägermeister" and eliminates them one by one until one is left, who then, at the very end, invites nine "new" Jägermeister to his Easter party (oops).
It has a very philosophical chorus, even if it might not sound like it:
Einmal muss jeder gehen
Und wenn dein Herz zerbricht
Davon wird die Welt nicht untergehen
Mensch, ärger' dich nicht.
At some point we all have to go
Even if your heart breaks
The world won't go down because of it
Don't let it bother you.
(by the way, China Grove, TX really is near San Antonio)
