9. My best friend in college was an English prof of mine -- I was about 30, she beyond retirement age.

She wanted to buy a small cottage near a small village in Ireland and told me
that if I could figure out a way to support myself, I could move over there with
her.

And we could go down to the pub and watch the locals gossip FURIOUSLY about
the American (ahem) "lady" and her (ahem) "houseboy".

Anybody have any doubts as to why I thought she was an incredible woman?
