In reply to the discussion: Favorite Anime or Cartoon Theme song.. [View all]Bongo Prophet

A series that most either love or see as shallow - ("Nothing happens! Too much cuteness!"
- it is rich with themes of friendship, loyalty, and cherishing time with others. And lots of understated irony, as well as the OTT humor. How do they write such good songs when they are always having tea and fancy desserts instead of practicing?
A taste of Afternoon Tea Time:
Songs about food.
Appreciation for a sibling:
Or a friend (the sentiment and harmony here get me every time...)
My Love is a Stapler - I listen to a lot of ambient, experimental and often comlex music, but love a well constructed, simple pop song.
And Youko Hisaka has such a great voice...
An interesting thing about their opening and ending songs - their openings are clearly them at the time of the story, while the ending songs are of their "future" selves. Another way of looking at this - the high school days are told in present tense, but really are nostalgic memories of same, while the end credits are their more "current" selves. Never spelled out, but it gives an interesting perpective, I think, on the themes presented in the series. Their "origin story"...
The seiyu (voice actors) even learned their characters' respective instruments to the point of being able to play a few songs live. Youko going so far as to play left handed bass. Pretty impressive, I think - far from "perfect" of course, but... that is sooo not the point, you know? Their love of their characters comes through, very emotional.
