In reply to the discussion: What was the first pornographic book you remember reading? [View all]solara
(3,894 posts)23. Candy was my first too!
I remember reading Candy in a dressing room at the theatre where I worked as an apprentice while an actor, much older than I, ( I was probably 15 or 16 at the time and he was certainly in his 60s) stopped by for a moment and watched me with a strange sort of bemused look on his face as I read. I was pretty sure that he would not know what the book was about since he was so old and all, so I kept reading, feeling a bit self satisfied and probably slightly arrogant as well.
Looking back at it, I am pretty sure he not only knew about the book but had a pretty fair idea of what I was experiencing while I was reading it.

I was probably around that same age when I found a rather graphic historical romance novel

Wow! That was quite a bit more than I expected. And it's so old, from the 1800s.

I read 'Portnoy' about 10 years ago (at age 18/19). Brilliant, hilarious book.
